Zebra Junction
Style / Genre: Americana / Jamband

About the Artist:
Zebra Junction is a duo of sextet proportions. Hailing from Denver, Colorado, Flitz Alan and Micah Lundy travel the world spreading their music. Working with a collection of rare, hybrid and homespun instruments, this power duo's Vaudeville approach includes "creative" percussion - like the electric bucket, baritone guitars, and such unconventional instruments as the banjo-ukulele, a hyper-modified Playskool tape deck used for "skratch", toy piano, and numerous samplers and effects to morph "old school" into "no school".

What do they sound like, you ask? If Tom Waits fronted the White Stripes and had Radiohead’s technology, you might have a sound like Zebra Junction! Zebra Junction, both live and in the studio, melds together a deeply eclectic group of styles. They seamlessly move from funked-up bluegrass to drunken Tin Pan Alley ragtime to colorful electronic grooves to the Celtic sounds of a whaling ship to sweet sparkling harmonies by campfire to a crescendo of rootsy psychedelia. Songs often blend into each other like scenes from a movie, taking the listener from living room to amphitheatre.

Just after releasing Waterborne in the Summer of 2005, Zebra Junction played the world famous Red Rocks Amphitheatre as a send off to it’s European Tour. In 2006 the band toured coast to coast in the U.S. as well as a 3rd tour of Europe, adding Germany and Switzerland this time around. ZJ provided soundtrack music for a documentary on Peace Jam (an international education program built around leading Nobel Peace Laureates like the Dalai Lama) which was aired several times last Fall on BBC World. ZJ performed with comedian Josh Blue (winner of NBC's Last Comic Standing) at the Gothic Theater in Denver, which was taped and shown in theaters all over the U.S. before airing on the Bravo Network. It featured a live cameo of ZJ and several songs from Waterborne. ZJ was nominated for the second time in the Westword Music Showcase Ballot under the Jam/Improv category. Winter/spring 2007 finds ZJ recording two full length albums, one with Josh Blue, due out by June.
